Ultramassive Black Holes in the Most Massive Galaxies: M BH–σ versus M BH–R b

چکیده
[Abridged] We investigate the nature of relations between black hole (BH) mass ($M_{\rm BH}$) and central velocity dispersion ($\sigma$) and, for core-S\'ersic galaxies, size depleted core ($R_{\rm b}$). Our sample 144 galaxies with dynamically determined $M_{\rm BH}$ encompasses 24 thought to be products gas-poor mergers, reliably identified based on high-resolution HST imaging. For -- i.e., combining normal-core b} < 0.5 $ kpc) large-core \gtrsim 0.5$ kpc), we find that correlates remarkably well $R_{\rm b}$ such BH} \propto R_{\rm b}^{1.20 \pm 0.14}$ (rms scatter in log $\Delta_{\rm rms} \sim 0.29$ dex), confirming previous works same except three new ones. Separating into S\'ersic, S\'ersic jointly define a single log-linear BH}-\sigma$ relation \sigma^{ 4.88 0.29}$ 0.47$ dex, however, at high-mass end (four measured are offset upward from this by ($2.5-4) \times \sigma_{\rm s}$, explaining previously reported steepening massive galaxies. Large-core spheroids have magnitudes $M_{V} \le -23.50$ mag, half-light radii Re $>$ 10 kpc extremely $M_{*} \ge 10^{12}M_{\odot}$. Furthermore, these tend host ultramassive BHs 10^{10}M_{\odot}$) tightly connected their rather than $\sigma$. The less popular BH}-R_{\rm exhibits $\sim$ 62% BH}- \sigma$ relations.

BPS Black Holes 3 M -
Classical black holes are solutions of Einstein’s equations of general relativity that exhibit an event horizon. From inside this horizon, nothing (and in particular, no light) can escape. The region inside the horizon is therefore not in the backward lightcone of future timelike infinity. However, since the discovery of Hawking radiation [1], it has become clear that many of the classical feat...
متن کاملThe largest black holes and the most luminous galaxies
The empirical relationship between the broad line region size and the source luminosity in active galactic nuclei (AGNs) is used to obtain black holes (BH) masses for a large number of quasars in three samples. The largests BH masses found exceed 10 M⊙ and are correlated, almost linearly, with the source luminosity. Such BH masses, when converted to galactic bulge mass and luminosity, indicate ...
متن کاملDynamics of Kicked and Accelerated Massive Black Holes in Galaxies
A study is made of the behavior of massive black holes in disk galaxies that have received an impulsive kick from a merger or a sustained acceleration from an asymmetric jet. The motion of the gas, stars, dark matter, and massive black hole are calculated using the GADGET-2 simulation code. The massive black hole escapes the galaxy for kick velocities above about 600 km s or accelerations above...
متن کاملWhy Massive Black Holes Are Small in Disk Galaxies ?
A potential mechanism is proposed to account for the fact that supermassive black holes (SMBHs) in disk galaxies appear to be smaller than those in elliptical galaxies in the same luminosity range. We consider the formation of SMBHs by radiation drag (Poynting-Robertson effect), which extracts angular momentum from interstellar matter and thereby drives the mass accretion onto a galactic center...
متن کاملModel for the M bh − σ Relation for Supermassive Black Holes in Galaxies
We construct a model for the formation of black holes within galactic bulges. The initial state is a slowly rotating isothermal sphere, characterized by effective transport speed aeff and rotation rate Ω. The black hole mass is determined when the centrifugal radius of the collapse flow exceeds the capture radius of the central black hole. This model reproduces the observed correlation between ...
